Kindergarten is a huge transition from play to work. It takes many kids a lot of time to adjust. With our special friends, it sometimes can take a whole school year. This friend wanted to take constant breaks. He didn't like the work part and tried his best to avoid it. We let him know that breaks were great, but that he had to work first. Once we got his work - break routine down, we worked on quality work production. We had to start someplace so this is where it was. In addition to this story, we gave him a work card that he turned in with his work when he finished and then we gave him a break card that he turned in when his break timer went off. So the cycle began and since it was so tangible and black and white, it worked.
I am in Kindergarten this year.
I sit at a new desk to do my work.
When I finish my work, I get to have a break.
When my break is over, it is time to work again.
I will go back to my work desk and work.
This will be a good way to go through the day.
I just need to remember, work first then break.
