Sally Is In First Grade This Year

When a new school year rolls around, it gets tricky for our friends on the spectrum. Since same ole same ole is their mantra, change can be a problem if they are not prepared. Social narratives prepare kids and give them a heads up. This helps smooth out some of the wrinkles in a transition. It really works. The student in this story was making a jump from Kinder to 1st grade. I wrote this to let her know that things would be a little different, but not to worry.., It was going to be a great year! In addition to a story like this, I send home a story like my post 10 Fun Facts About Mrs. Smith (see StoriesLeadTheWay.com). These stories don't fix everything, but they help set the stage for a successful first day of school. Enjoy!

This year I will be in 1st grade.
Whoo Hoo!

I will still go to the same school and work with my
teachers in the Learning Lab.Mrs. Smith will still be a Kindergarten teacher, but she won't be my teacher anymore because I am moving up to 1st grade.

I will have a new classroom and a new teacher. Mrs. Taylor will be my 1st grade classroom teacher. She is awesome! I will learn a whole bunch in 1st grade. I will get smarter than I am already and really rock this year.

It will be a great school year!
