A student with a photographic memory for faces, was compelled to introduce himself to anyone and everyone (especially adults), who he did not know. It was his "thing" that he did. To tone that down a bit, I wrote this story to remind him of when it was appropriate to meet new people and provided examples of ways to do that. With a story like this that requires a lot of self control on the part of the student, there is a need for practice and repetition. I will often times roll play when I do this, so that the student is actually moving through the motions of what we are expecting him to do. Give it a try! Enjoy!
I will be moving up to the 2nd grade.
This year at my school, there are some new teachers and staff members.
If I see a new Moss Haven teacher or staff member, I may want to introduce myself.
I need to make sure that it is an appropriate time.
For example, if they are busy or talking to someone else, I should wait to introduce myself.
If I am working on school work or if my teacher is presenting a lesson, I will need to wait.
When there is an appropriate time to introduce myself, I might say, "Hi my name is Chris. What is your name?" I may also want to add, " I am glad that you are at Moss Haven this year." This will make them feel welcomed.
