Welcome Back To School

hen 6th grade rolled around, this student was still having a hard time with social interactions. He loved to touch and hit other kids. He would call them names because he still hadn't mastered the art of chit chat. Since he had issues with interactions, he was having many social issues in the classroom.  In addition to social issues, he was also a student who checked out and lacked the motivation to start and complete work. In 6th grade when social rules are a puzzle at best and curriculum comes flying by at record speed, it was important to start this kiddo off on the best foot possible. So, this story was sent to him before school started. Enjoy!

This year I will be in the 6th grade. When I go back to school, I will still be in Miss Jones' class.

There will be many of the same kids in my class, but there will also be some new ones. It will be good to see my friends at school and meet some new ones.

I need to try to remember that school is a place where I go to learn and work. Doing my work is very important and if I don't do it, I won't learn new skills. My teachers are going to give me work to help me get ready for Junior High. It is important that I do my best and finish it every day.

When I am with the kids in my class, I should keep myself under control. I may get excited to be with my friends, but my words and hands should always be appropriate. I should try to keep my hands to myself because kids don't like to be touched all over the place. If I speak kind words to my friends, then I will have a lot of friends at school this year.

I still get to work in the Learning Lab with my special teachers. They will help me with my work this year.

Sixth grade will be a great year! I will work hard and learn lots!
